Educators across the country are struggling to find ways to close the racial achievement gap. Our ability to achieve educational equity requires a strong belief that all children can learn coupled with a deep and relentless commitment to transform learning environments. We must also seek to understand this complex issue from the perspective of students, especially students of color.
The Voices of Color video provided on this website is a powerful tool for engaging teachers and other school personnel in "courageous conversation," interracial dialogue about race, racial identity and student achievement. Furthermore, this website provides the forum for ongoing dialogue between students and educators, using student voice to deepen our understanding of issues of educational equity and to help all children achieve high levels of academic success.
Please listen with an open mind and heart to the Voices of Color students as they share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences with you. Their collective voice will shine a new light on equity and will inspire in you the courage to heed their message and to be the "voice of equity."
